BlueBARGE was pleased to participate in European Maritime Day in Cyprus, with representatives from Columbia Shipmanagement attending on behalf of the project consortium at the CINEA booth, engaging with stakeholders and visitors to showcase our power barge concept, capable of accelerating the maritime sector’s energy transition.
The project has also been featured in a dedicated session within the workshop “Greening the European Maritime Space: Ports and Green Shipping Corridors in Action”, which took place on 21st of May and focused around the question: “how can Europe accelerate the transition from pilot projects to large-scale maritime decarbonisation?”. The debate also highlighted key challenges that still need to be addressed, including infrastructure investment, fuel availability, regulatory certainty, standardisation and stakeholder coordination. All points in which the developing power barge can play a main role, which was deepened by Yiannos Lakkotrypis during the session “From strategy to implementation: concrete experiences and key achievements in port decarbonisation and the development of green shipping corridors”.
The event as a whole provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the progress of the BlueBARGE project with stakeholders and fellow EU-funded initiatives, while also exploring new opportunities for collaboration. A special thanks to CINEA for hosting BlueBARGE and to the representatives of the European Commission who stopped by and contributed to insightful discussions.
